Great reading!!

Secrets Sicilys Corretti Dynasty ebook

Secrets Sicilys Corretti Dynasty ebook

Ella was tired of trying to save someone who didn't seem to want to be saved. She finally sets out to realize her own dreams. Getting her foot in the door of Corretti Media is the first step in seeking her ultimate goal - a director in motion pictures! However, Ella finds that she may not get that achievement with the charismatic Santo, but she could still find her lust fulfilled since she is looking to walk away anyway. Santo has just watched his family life go through the ringer and now his somewhat reliable PA is making noises about leaving. Santo doesn't want to see her go, but he is willing to accept her in his bed as she wouldn't mix business and pleasure before.

A Legacy of Secrets was a steamy, passionate romance that towed the line of slight erotica with a particular scene. I was actually wondering if I was really reading an HP at that point and perhaps I was interpreting the scene erroneously. I liked that Ella had Santo panting after her and that she was able to push him away at some points, but I did find that she seemed to want things both ways at times as Santo accused her of in A Legacy of Secrets.

I actually felt sorry for Santo a few times in A Legacy of Secrets because he did truly come to care for Ella and he had no idea that she felt that for him when she was forced to fob off his exes for him. I liked that Santo wanted Ella much more than she let on about her desires in A Legacy of Secrets. I have to admit that I wanted some blood evening up the score for Ella at one point too, but I settled for what I was presented with in the end.

The fact that she was a mystery that he desperately tried to resolve was intriguing and seemed to keep him involved in A Legacy of Secrets and that bodes well for the two of them. I just had such a good time finding a hero that fell for the heroine, while she teased him a bit, that I Joyfully Recommend A Legacy of Secrets.

Urban Expressions Whitney Available Natural

Urban Expressions Whitney Available Natural

These are four excellently written, well-paced, suspenseful and entertaining stories! I thought all of them had a noir feel to them (as defined by film noir - emphasis on "cynical attitudes and sexual motivations"), even though the last three take place in contemporary times. "Mistake Proof" took an unexpected turn as the main character decided to hide in an asylum and that may or may not have been the best idea. "Rare Justice" was a touching tale and a nice introduction to Jillian Varela, a tough, principled, female (woot!) PI who gets the job done no matter what the obstacles. Her approach to detective work through dedication and hard work is encouraging to see, and especially so when it pays off. "Hollywood Hitman" was a fun piece, where people get what they deserve in unexpected ways. "The Game's End" was another good showcase for Jillian Varela's character as she works to prove the innocence of a naive girl charged with murder.

These four stories are absorbing reads and perfect for a short dose of mystery and suspense in the midst of our busy lives.

A Small Gem of a Book

Flora A Novel Gail Godwin

Flora A Novel Gail Godwin

Flora, By Gail Godwin, is a small gem of a book. It is written in first person, narrated by Helen as an adult, who is remembering her 10th summer when her mother's cousin Flora came from Alabama to babysit while her father worked on the Manhattan Project during the end of World War II.

Helen is both wise and angry. She lost her mother to pneumonia when she was three, her beloved grandmother who raised her has just died, and her close friend Brian has come down with polio. On top of that, another friend is moving away.

Helen sees Flora as an interloper and a simpleton. Flora wears her heart on her sleeve and is quick to cry. This enrages Helen who works hard on being in control and planning out what she says and does with the least possible emotion given away. She is very manipulative and often sets Flora up for failure. Since Flora has poor self-esteem, this is not a difficult thing to do.

The book examines this one summer in Helen and Flora's life. They are quarantined to their home, which Helen calls `The Old One Thousand', because of a polio scare in town. Helen's father had polio as a child and doesn't want Flora or Helen leaving their home or inviting others in. `The Old One Thousand' used to be a half-way house for people recovering from TB or psychiatric issues. Helen and her alcoholic father are now its only residents.

I was able to see the parental child in Helen. She often cared for her father who would be disabled by his alcohol intake. Helen had a typical childhood personality of one who needed control in a life filled with dysfunction and chaos.

Despite the warning from Helen's father, Flora and Helen often invite Finn, a war veteran, now delivery-man for the grocer, into their home for dinner. He is an artist and loves to draw their pictures. Occasionally, the minister also makes a visit.

We watch Helen repeatedly plan ways to undermine Flora and make herself look good. Helen is very smart but she lacks much empathy. She is quick to judge and quick to take action on any small affront or disappointment. She has taken to Finn and has a fantasy that Finn will live in one of the `recoverers' old rooms once her father comes home. Finn had a medical discharge from the army both for a collapsed lung and psychiatric reasons. Helen sees him as a perfect `recoverer' for their home.

This supposedly idyllic summer turns to tragedy due to a turn of events initiated by Helen. She looks back with both remorse and understanding of her young self as she lets the reader know what led up to this denouement.

This book, like all of Gail Godwin's writing, is well-written, suspenseful, and a literary page-turner. I was up most of last night finishing it because I could not put it down. Despite it taking place primarily in one house for a short period of time, it feels universal as we all may know people like Flora or Helen and the type of interactions described.

Almost Guaranteed to Love It

Love Realized Real Series ebook

Love Realized Real Series ebook

I can't possibly imagine a better value for your money. I have owned this dishwasher for over two years now, and I use it on average 2-4 times a week. I have only had the slightest issue with this dishwasher, and it was simply that the soap compartment would not open all the way during the wash cycle. It seem to be hitting on the top rack. I had some success if I just remembered to push the top rack in all the way, it has some rubber seals on the connectors in the back, and there is in all the way, and then in snug all the way, another 1/2 inch or so. Though that did not seem to always fix the problem. I never called for service or repair, as that is generally a much greater hassle than other options. The best solution that I have found is to use liquid or gel dishwasher detergent, this completely rinses into the wash cycle, without any problems.

The dishwasher cleans very well. Since this model is hundreds of dollars cheaper than most competing models on the market, I was not very optimistic, but it has certainly proven its ability. The entire reason I purchased this dishwasher was because I HATE washing dishes. And as such, I HATE pre-washing dishes. So unless my dishes have some great amount of burnt or crusted on food, everything goes straight into the dishwasher, and usually comes out sparkling clean. The cycles are quite long. I usually use the second longest cycles, and it take over two hours.

The capacity is certainly as large as advertised. The bottom rack has plenty of room for large pots and pans, along with the silverware rack. The top rack has two height settings, on the lower setting, I can fit almost any height of cups or glasses, sandwich plates, bowls and smaller dishes, and even some smaller pans.

Overall, I am completely satisfied with this purchase. This is my first Danby product, but after owning this product, I would not hesitate to purchase another, or recommend the brand to a friend. And honestly, if this dishwasher broke today, I would instantly re-purchase the same model, as I feel that I have already gotten my monies worth.

KOOK Teflon - enters first hand memories of a fearless female leader

Violence Girl Hollywood Stage Chicana

Violence Girl Hollywood Stage Chicana

I just got the book last week and I couldn't put it down... It's an amazing memoir from one of punk rock's first ladies. Alice's first hand accounts of her memories are heart-warming, frightening, familiar (myself being first generation Mexican-American as well), eye-opening, and inspiring all at the same time. It was fantastic getting her first-hand account of how the punk rock scene in Los Angeles first blossomed and reading all about Alice's early influences...but the best if the way Alice tells and conjures up memories of her life as a little girl and all that happened to her and around her that influenced her stage presence and art. To me, Alice is truly a visionary artist and this book illustrates just how much of an influence she has become to so many. It's truly inspiring and fascinating to read about her life "after" punk rock in her journey through college to her position as a school teacher. A truly great memoir that I can guarantee you won't be able to put the book down either... Felicidades, Alicia!
